Meet the Maker: Julia Gold, Belle Terre

How long have you been in business?

Belle Terre was officially started in April of 2010. We spent a good bit of time at the beginning developing our initial product line, so we've only been selling to the public for just over a year.

Where are you based?

Our current home base is Lincolnton, NC; however, in the next year or so we hope to transition to land we purchased in Morganton, NC.

Describe your products and anything new that you'll have at the market.

We've added quite a few new products this year. Our most exciting addition is our liquid soap line. We offer the soap in lavender, lemongrass, and tea tree oil. Like our other products, it is olive oil based, very moisturizing, and great for sensitive skin.

Describe a bit about your production process and what tools you use.

All items are made by hand in our kitchen using basic kitchen equipment. Yep, this means we have at least
two of almost everything most people have - one for Belle Terre, and one for us. Amazingly most of these
products can be made by melting, mixing, and blending a few base ingredients. Our recipes were all trial and
error and most took many iterations to get just right. We never thought we'd have 50+ recipes memorized, but
when you do it enough times, it sticks.

Any Durham recommendations for out-of-towners?

I always have fun wandering around Morgan Imports. Such a unique selection of gifts and great cards.
